Our Philosophy

At Clementine & Caramel, we seek the best for ourselves, our children, and the future of everyone on this planet.

One of the biggest problems we face is plastic pollution.

The majority of clothing produced, about 65%, is made of plastic. Among them, we find fibers like polyester, polyamide or nylon, acrylic, elastane or spandex, among others. A large part of these fibers is produced from synthetic polymers, such as petroleum.

Plastic is not biodegradable and can take between 20 to 500 years, or even more, to decompose. Since the first fully synthetic plastic was developed in 1907, we can conclude that almost all plastic created since then still exists in a landfill or floating in the ocean.

Plastic is toxic. Washing clothes, especially synthetic ones, releases millions of plastic microfibers that contaminate ocean water. These microplastics can carry toxins, they absorb pesticides and heavy metals, which can then be released into our bodies.

Microplastics are everywhere. Studies show that we consume about 5 grams of plastic per week, equivalent to a credit card.

Plastic is affecting our fertility in both men and women. The use of polyester underwear creates a static charge and can affect our reproductive capacity.

We believe that the first step towards a more effective solution is to stop producing plastic.

Clementine & Caramel is combating the environmental emergency by selecting fabrics that do not release plastics and microplastics into the environment.

We choose natural materials. The clothing pieces we develop are completely organic and 100% plastic-free.

In our pieces:

  • The main fabrics we use are cotton, linen, silk, cashmere, and merino wool.

  • Our pieces are sewn with threads that are 100% cotton.

  • Our buttons are made from natural materials like coconut, mother of pearl, wood, and corozo.

  • The elastics are made from natural rubber (sourced from tree sap) and cotton.

  • Our packaging is made from 100% recyclable and biodegradable cardboard paper.

You will not find zippers in our pieces, as there is still no accessible biodegradable solution on the market.

And you will not find fibers like polyester, polyamide or nylon, acrylic, elastane or spandex, among others, in our labels.
